MVHC announces free cervical cancer screenings

| January 5, 2018

COSHOCTON – In honor of Cervical Health Awareness month (January), the Muskingum Valley Health Centers (MVHC) will provide a free cervical cancer screening to any woman age 21 to 65 at all our locations in Muskingum, Morgan, Coshocton, and Guernsey counties until March 31. Appointments for the Pap test can be made by calling MVHC at 740-891-9000.

“Screenings can find abnormal cells before they turn into cancer, if left untreated. We want everyone to have access to this life-saving procedure,” said Dr. Bijan Goodarzi, MVHC’s Chief Medical Officer.

Annually nearly 13,000 women are diagnosed with cervical cancer and it is estimated that over 4,000 will die from the disease this year. However, the survival rate increases to 92 percent when invasive cervical cancer is detected in its early stages.

Funding for the free screenings is being provided by MVHC’s Patient Care Charitable Fund, which was started in 2014 to support the mission of the MVHC. To donate to the fund or for more information, contact Amy Kettner at 740-891-9023 or visit www.mvhealthcenters.org.
