Joan Wesney
COSHOCTON – Bernice Joan Wesney, 86, died peacefully Friday, Jan. 5, 2018 at the Coshocton Regional Medical Center, surrounded by her family.
She was born March 25, 1931 to the late William and Freda (Wolfe) Smith. She was a 1949 graduate of McCluney High School in Perry Co. On Sept. 17, 1949, she married Raymond Elmer Wesney, who preceded her in death on July 9, 2003. She was a former employee of the Longaberger Co., where she worked in the staining department.
Joan was known for her humor and quick wit. Anyone who met her has a fond memory of something she once said that made them smile. She was practically a River View taxi service for many years. Any time her kids or grandkids needed a ride, she was there to help. She attended countless extra-curricular events. From baseball, volleyball, basketball, football and wrestling, to track & field and band, she was almost always there. She loved to crochet, as many people who cherish one of her handmade afghans can attest. She enjoyed reading, listening to music (especially country), and rocking chairs and rocking babies. She had a known talent as a “baby whisperer”. Joan was loved and will be missed by all.
She is survived by her eight children, which includes three sons, Raymond L. (Debra) Wesney of Warsaw, Michael D. (Karen) Wesney of Walhonding, and William D. (Tonia) Wesney of Coshocton; five daughters, Catherine J. (Raymond) Thomas of West Lafayette, Martha A. (Andy) Gardinsky of Strasburg, Debra S. (Kevin) Roeser of Navarre, Melissa K. (Floyd) Ashley of Coshocton, and Beth D. (Brad) Vojacek of Warsaw; twenty-one grandchildren; thirty-nine great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Donald (Patty) Smith of Canada; and several nieces & nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers and their wives, William & Shirley Smith, and Roger & Kay Smith.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2018 at the Fischer Funeral Home in Warsaw, with Pastor Ron Davis officiating. Burial will follow at Branch Cemetery. Calling hours are from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 9th at the funeral home, and also one hour prior to service time on Wednesday. www.fischerfuneralhome.com
