Help United Way reach fundraising goals
COSHOCTON – United Way of Coshocton County is almost 80 percent to its fundraising campaign goal, and there is still plenty of time to give.
The mission of United Way is to unite neighbors and resources to positively impact lives in Coshocton County. They do that by providing financial support to 17 community partner agencies and a variety of community impact initiatives that are administered with donor dollars or grants.
This year’s campaign goal is $350,000, which is down from last year’s $375,000. United Way Executive Director Lyn Mizer said several factors impacted the decision to lower the goal.
“The industrial division has always accounted for well more than half of our donations and we know there has been a decrease in jobs in manufacturing and industries,” she said. “We also know retirees are living on a fixed income and the number of working people living paycheck to paycheck is increasing.”
However, people are still stepping up to raise funds for United Way.
“The retiree division is very close to its goal and so is agribusiness,” Mizer said. “Industry still has several donations out. The professional division with the help of our hospital is exceeding goals and the schools division is very close to its goal.”
She noted that some of the divisions have gotten creative this year with their fundraising such as when Coshocton City Schools collected donations to have teachers and administrators slimed.
“I so appreciate them being willing to take one for the team,” Mizer said.
The corporate sponsor of this year’s campaign is Century National Bank.
“Our corporate sponsors are an integral part of the campaign because they help defray costs so we can get more money and donations into the hands of the programs we fund,” Mizer said.
United Way’s campaign officially started in August 2017. Mizer said it officially closes in March 2018, but money can be attributed to the campaign fund until it is allocated in April 2019.
