Wild game dinner offering lunch and dinner option this year

FRESNO – For the first time in its history, there will be two dining options for the Tri-County Wild Game Dinner at Chili Crossroads Bible Church. Attendees can purchase tickets to eat at noon or 5 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 24.
“For the past four or five years it’s been crazy as far as crowds and some of our guests were uncomfortable with the crowd and having to wait in line and not getting the food they were hoping to,” said Pastor Neal Dearyan. “To make our guests more comfortable we decided to make more seats available. We also bring food right to the table so they don’t have to wait in line.”
People are welcome to bring dishes to share, but that will not be the primary meal. Each table will have rolls, coleslaw, and baked beans, and servings of alligator, bison, turtle soup and Nate’s Mountain Man Venison Stew.
“We have a bunch of great cooks in the church so it will be a combination of them preparing the food and Baltic Meats also is helping us this year,” Dearyan said.
There also will be a little bit of moose at the event for guests to try.
“Our son went to Alaska with my father-in-law to speak at different churches,” Dearyan said. “They had a layover in Fairbanks and bought some beef and pork to trade with the locals in Fort Yukon, Alaska and ended up trading for moose.”
Pizza made right at the church also will be available.
“People who don’t like wild game can still come and enjoy a great meal and will leave full and happy,” Dearyan said.
Both timeslots for the event also will feature the atomic wing and chili contest with prizes for the winners.
“Buying a ticket qualifies you to enter the atomic wing challenge if you want,” Dearyan said. “We’d love to hear ahead if you are bringing chili, but it’s not required.”
Tickets for the event are $15 at the door or $12 in advance. Children 10 and under are half price. They are available at Woodbury Outfitters, Charm Outdoors, Kidron Sports Center and by calling the church at 740-545-9707 or visiting www.chiliwildgame.com. Online there also will be an option to buy a table for $90, which will provide tickets for eight people. Proceeds from the event help send children to church camp.
“We are so grateful for the support of the community,” Dearyan said. “We do two different camps every summer and they are really great for the kids’ development and make for a fun summer.”
Those who attend the event also will have the chance to win $100 gift cards from Woodbury Outfitters and other door prizes.
“It’s best to get your tickets in advance,” Dearyan said. “We aren’t sold out yet, but it could happen.”
