New business opens on Main Street

| February 27, 2018

COSHOCTON – A new buying and selling business has opened on Main Street in Coshocton. Leonard Harmon opened L&H Surplus on Feb. 1 after the retirement of Shane Klein who owned the business, then known as the Bargain Shack, and has created a booming business both in his store location and online through Facebook auctions.

L&H Surplus, 516 Main St., offers customers the opportunity to sell their unwanted items.

“It could be any item,” said Harmon. “It really doesn’t matter to me at all.”

In order to sell an item, Harmon requires a valid driver’s license as a way to protect his business if the item has previously been stolen.

“Bring in the item and I’ll see how much they want for it, see where I’m at on the price, and see if it’s worth buying,” said Harmon.

In addition to his store, Harmon has had success auctioning off items through Facebook auctions. His page is “L+H Surplus Buy and Sell”.

Bids start at $0.25 and go up in $0.25 increments. Harmon puts up at least 50 items every day to the site for people to bid on. All customers must be able to come to the store to pick up items.

When Harmon first started his Facebook auction page, he had 885 members. That has now grown to more than 1,000 members.

Harmon also has an eBay page as well and has been successful on eBay for the last 10 years. He also has 15 years of factory industry experience.

L&H Surplus offers everything from vacuum cleaners to deodorant and everything in between. They have DVDs, CDs, kitchen items, baby items, home décor, etc. They also offer discounts periodically on select items. Currently, Harmon is interested in purchasing gold and silver necklaces, rings, coins, etc.

L&H Surplus is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. The store can be reached at 740-294-2873.
