Ridgewood board of education recognizes student state qualifiers
WEST LAFAYETTE – The Ridgewood Local Board of Education met in regular session on Monday, March 19 at 7 p.m. in the administration building with all members present. The meeting opened with the Pledge of Allegiance. The minutes of the previous finance meeting and regular meeting were approved.
Superintendent Mike Masloski gave the following presentations: A video by the media classes of Mr. John Lindig and Ms. Haley Evans was shown. The student-produced video will be used to promote the Ridgewood School District and can be viewed on the school website. A Professional Development day on May 24 was outlined. The training session will revolve around a grant for $30,000 received from Ohio Dean’s Grant to use for “Trauma Informed Schools”. This training will bring information and strategies to teachers when they are teaching students with adverse childhood experiences and the effects these experiences have on the brain.
Commendations and congratulations were given to the following staff and students:
- Ernie Yoder, Doug Patterson and Todd Stoffer for going above and beyond to ensure students safety and attendance during the recent high water events of February and March. They showed that Ridgewood, first and foremost, always puts children’s safety as a priority.
- Kathy Blust, middle school teacher, for speaking on “Life Balance” at the BPW Individual Development competition in November and again in February. She will also represent Region 3 BPW Ohio at the State Competition on April 21. Congratulations and good luck.
- J. Durr, ninth grade student, and state qualifier at the State Indoor Track Meet, placed fifth in the heavy weight throw.
- Alexis Prater, 11 grade student and state qualifier at the State Indoor Track Meet placed first in the long jump, second in the hurdles, and fifth in the triple jump.
- Grace Gottwalt, 10th grade student and state qualifier placing 15th in the vault.
Executive session was held to discuss school security and in a separate matter with Melissa Dean, parent. No action was taken.
The treasurer’s report was given and approved on the following items:
- Finance report for February and payment of bills, the school-wide pool fund, and purchase orders and donations from Ohio University Communication Fellows Program of $1,000; Isleta UMC to Ridgewood Middle School, $250; and the West Lafayette
- Lions Club to Ridgewood Elementary School for $1,000.
- Approved the resolution accepting the amounts and rates as determined by the budget commissions authorizing the necessary tax levies and certifying them to the county auditor.
Superintendent Mike Masloski reported on the following items:
- Resignation of Lance Casey, bus driver effective March 30, 2018.
Volunteers pending successful background reports, drug testing and certification:
- Paige Patterson, softball; Ryan Lowe, baseball, Heather Bell, student teacher at RES for 2018-2019 school year; Tammy Zimmer Classified sub aide for district.
First reading of the 2018-2019 School Calendar.
Agreement with Hocking College for 2018-2019 for College Credit Plus program.
Paying mileage of $0.50 per mile for Rhonda Graham to provide transportation for student to John Glenn H.S.
Bids for advertising for windows for Ridgewood Elementary School.
Final reading of Board Policy and Procedures #5330.04 Procurement and use of naloxone in case of emergency at school.
Discussion was held on bus parking at driver’s residence and a football locker room and storage facility.
The next regular meeting will be held Monday April 16 at 7 p.m. at the administrative building, 301 S. Oak St., West Lafayette.
