Ridgewood awarded 2017 Field of Excellence

| May 1, 2018

WEST LAFAYETTE – Today, Ridgewood High School was one of 20 schools in the nation to receive the 2017 Field of Excellence from Pioneer Athletic.

“We applied for it not really thinking anything would come of it,” said Matt Colvin, assistance principal and athletic director.

A representative from the company stopped by the high school today to present the award to Colvin, which consists of a banner and a certificate. The banner will be on display at the football field.

Colvin took a picture of the field and showed it to Mike Dover of Front and Center Turf, who takes care of Ridgewood’s field. Dover submitted the photo to Pioneer for consideration.

“It’s really cool because our football field in the fall of 2016 was in rough shape,” said Colvin. “I contacted Mike Dover from Front and Center Turf and he said he could fix it, and man did he ever.”

Colvin said he hopes the Ridgewood High School students will be proud of the award.

“It’s very rewarding in the fact that everything we do here, we are doing to give our students the best possible experience,” said Colvin. “It’s something to be proud of. While they’re driving by the school, I hope they feel proud knowing this is part of their home school.”
