COSHOCTON – The goal of the Coshocton City Schools Parent Teacher Partnership Committee is to bridge the gap between home and school to help everyone be more successful academically, athletically and in their relationships.

On May 1 the committee worked toward that goal by offering a resource fair to the community that was set up in the elementary school’s gym.

“We – parents, teachers, paraprofessionals, principals – are all here because we are passionate about helping our students,” said Dawne Shook, who represents the high school staff on the committee. “This is the best committee I’ve ever been on. We have quite a good team.”

The committee has been working together for three years, but this was the first time they’ve hosted the fair.

“We wanted to get the word out and pass out information about opportunities this summer for kids to continue their growth,” Shook said.

Rachel was enjoying checking out the display with her children Lillian and Sheldon.

“We are new here and were looking for different resources for things to do with them this summer,” Rachel said.

One of the tables she stopped at was the Coshocton Public Library’s where Deborah Crowdy explained the summer reading program offered to children and adults.

“No library or tax levy money goes toward any program we are doing this summer,” she said. “Everything we are able to do is because of the support of Coshocton businesses and organizations.”

Lana Lawson and her children also stopped by the library’s table. Her 6-year-old daughter Ella Lawson had fun playing with a balloon from Miss Jennifer’s Dance Studio while Crowdy explained the library’s upcoming events. Ella and her 3-year-old sister then colored visors that were set up as an activity at the table.

“I think it’s great how the community came together for this,” Lana said. “Many people may not realize some of these activities are available.”

Attendees also had the chance to win door prizes and enjoy light refreshments.

Shook appreciated everyone who took time out of their evening to make the resource fair possible.

“Coshocton is one of the best small communities to live in,” she said. “No matter what is going on people are there to support you.”
