River View hosting softball skills clinics

| June 12, 2018

WARSAW – Girls, ages 9 – 14, who are playing softball in a recreation program will have a unique opportunity to improve their skills and learn more at softball skills clinics at River View High School.

The clinics will be held every Monday, except June 18, from 9 to 11 a.m. Girls do not have to sign up for the entire program, but are welcome to come when they are able. Parents must sign a waiver and leave an emergency contact when the player comes for the first time.

Bonnie Infante, girls’ RV softball coach, said that the girls will be separated into skill levels. “Even if this is their first year playing softball, we want them to join us. I have varsity players that help with the clinics and they can run drills while I work with girls who might need more one on one help.”

Each week, the girls will focus about an hour on hitting skills and an hour on fielding (both infield and outfield) skills. “It varies each week, but we use a lot of drills that they can do at home without another person so they can keep practicing as much as they want,” said Infante. “I believe that every player should be able to play multiple positions. This makes for more rounded players and team.”

The clinics are free. “We’re trying to build our program and make our players more competitive,” said Infante. Each player needs to bring a water bottle and softball equipment. All girls must wear softball pants or another type of pants that will cover their legs. “I know it gets hot, but for their safety, no shorts will be allowed.”

Parents do not have to stay for the entire clinic. “We have parents that bring a book to read or walk around the campus during clinics, but they don’t need to hang around,” said Infante. Parents will not be allowed on the field during the clinics.
