Camp themed Vacation Bible School held
MILLCREEK TOWNSHIP – There was a moose on the loose last week at Shepler Church, but he was friendly and had a message to share with children who came for Vacation Bible School.
The church was transformed into a campground June 20-22 for junior campers to enjoy Camp Moose on the Loose, where they discovered God’s forever forgiveness.
“We chose this theme because we thought kids could relate to it since it was about camping,” said Cecil Richards, who was the head “ranger” for the three-day event.
Each evening about 16 campers and several volunteers gathered in the church sanctuary to hear Bruce’s message and learn about giving back to others by collecting money to donate to Camp Echoing Hills.
“Camp Echoing Hills helps people with disabilities be able to experience going to camp,” Richards said. “Your donations are going to help someone be able to do that for a whole week.”
Singing, Bible lessons, crafts and snacks rounded out the activities for the time the children were at camp.
“My favorite part of Bible School was the whole thing,” said Jeremiah Staggers.
The 9-year-old lives in New Concord, but came to the event at Shepler because he was spending some time with Wyatt Richards and his family.
“My favorite part has been when we eat,” said Wyatt, who is 7-years-old.
Vacation Bible School participants were invited to take part in a special church program on June 24 and enjoy a cook-out.
