Rosie the Riveter to be portrayed by Alice Hoover
COSHOCTON – The Johnson-Humrickhouse Museum is thrilled to host renowned historical interpreter Alice Hoover at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 12, when she portrays Rosie the Riveter. As a gifted dramatist, Hoover chronicles her stories in costume, using first person interpretation. Noted for her historical accuracy, she engages her audience by bringing viewers into the life of the character.
A cultural icon, Rosie the Riveter represented the women who had to enter the workforce during WWII when the men were called to duty. These women helped build munitions, aircraft and other war supplies. Used as propaganda in posters, magazines and other media, the image of Rosie was at once hard, strong, beautiful and feminine. Many women modeled for the different incarnations of Rosie in wartime art and there was no one particular woman behind the moniker. Rosie the Riveter represented the all-the-American Everywoman who kept the country going in a great time of need.
Adults are $4, children $3 and Friends of the Museum receive free admission.
The Johnson-Humrickhouse Museum is located at 300 N. Whitewoman St. The Ohio Arts Council also helped fund this event with state tax dollars to encourage economic growth, educational excellence and cultural enrichment for all Ohioans.
