Miller – Kaser Cremation Services to open soon

COSHOCTON – Funeral homes have always had to travel out of town to follow through with a person’s request to have their remains cremated. However, that will soon no longer be necessary thanks to Miller Funeral Home.
“Your loved one will never have to leave our care,” said Valerie Miller, who owns the funeral home with her husband Matt.
The family partnered with their funeral director Darcie Kaser to create Miller – Kaser Cremation Services. The new crematorium is located on Cedar Street and will cremate humans and animals.
“Cremation is becoming more and more popular and we wanted to be able to offer this service here in our county,” Matt said. “We’ve already talked to all the funeral homes here and after we get going will reach further out.”
They’ve also talked to all the veterinarians in the county and would like to eventually approach those in other counties. Arrangements with pet owners will be made just like they are with humans and a paw print keepsake will be created.
“There will be different identification for humans and pets and everything will be kept completely separate,” Kaser said.
Matt and Kaser are both state certified to operate the crematorium and so are two other staff members.
The new facility has been a year in the making and on July 2, the two retorts finally arrived from Florida. One will be used just for pets and one for humans. The human one weighs 22,000 pounds and the animal one weighs 18,000 pounds so a crane from William Albert Excavating was used to lift them off the semi truck. Hathaway, Inc., Hilscher-Clarke and Philip A. Wagner, Inc. also assisted with the new building.
Once the gas and electric is hooked up the crematorium will be inspected and then be able to open for business. They have an EPA permit and Matt said they will have zero emissions.
“You can’t see or smell anything,” Kaser said. “When we are running you won’t be able to tell from the outside of the building.”
