Cornelius loves living and working in Coshocton
COSHOCTON – Amber Cornelius of Fresno is the Coshocton County Chamber of Commerce’s next featured young professional.
Cornelius grew up in Coshocton and is a 2008 River View High School graduate. She attended the Coshocton County Career Center in the cosmetology program. “I always knew that hair styling wouldn’t be my career, even though I really enjoyed doing hair and met some amazing people. I still do it on the side, once in a while.”
“I never really left Coshocton. I love the close-knit feeling of small towns and even though people like to talk about the bad in Coshocton, there is so much good, too. I’m a country girl – I’ve never wanted to live in a city,” said Cornelius. Her husband, Brandon, also grew up in the county and is a Ridgewood graduate.
Another reason she loves Coshocton is the way so many people pulled together when her father became ill with cancer. “We had thrown a benefit for him and it was truly touching to see how many people in our community were willing to help – whether it was donating something for the auction, coming to the benefit or just reaching out to let us know they were praying for him. It made me see just how blessed I am to live in such a compassionate community.” She lost her father last year.
After she graduated from RVHS, she attended COTC and worked as a hair stylist for six years. She always was interested in business. She worked as an account executive for the Coshocton Tribune/Gannett news for three years. “I learned so much there and realized I had a real passion for marketing and sales.” Cornelius is currently the marketing and ecommerce manager at Novelty Advertising Company.
Cornelius said she learned a lot about digital marketing and enjoys it. “I want to passionately represent every business that hires us – to highlight their good points. It’s so exciting to me to watch businesses grow – to know we’ve helped with that.”
“Novelty has been around since 1895, but there are still so many local people that don’t know what we do. I want to help change that and bring more local business awareness to the area. In January, we launched an ecommerce site and I’m working to build that website and get more direct sales. I also use social media to showcase what we do. If we do shirts or bags for someone, I post a picture so people can see what services we offer. My goal right now is to drive more traffic to our website and let people know they can go online and order what they need.”
Cornelius and her husband got married last year and have three “fur-babies” in their home. They enjoy riding their Razor, kayaking and most outdoor activities. She also enjoys singing and is a member of the Coshocton County Career Center Advisory Board.
