COSHOCTON – More than 20 people aged six and up, gathered at the Johnson-Humrickhouse Museum on Sunday, July 22 for a painting class. Jenn Bush, director of the museum, taught a painting class for the whole family. The finished project was a beautiful sunflower on a blue background.

Reva Kocher, employee of the museum, said that family paint night was a unique partnership between the museum and McPeak’s KOA campground. “Everyone who participated tonight will get a free ticket to the Sunflower Festival at the KOA campground Aug. 17-19. All of the pictures painted tonight will be on display during the festival and the public can vote for their favorite with money. The painting with the most money will win a prize and the museum will get the money.”

“We wanted to offer something family friendly. With kids home all summer, we knew families were looking for things to do and this event provides a way for them to have fun and spend time together,” said Kocher.

Erica Gress brought her children to the event. She said she and her daughter had done classes before and her son wanted to try one, too. “I’ve been looking for something that will work with our schedules and this one came up. The kids’ grandma, Sue Newhouse, likes to paint and they do, too.” Her daughter, Javyn, 7, said she likes to draw with colored pencils and that cats are her favorite subject.

“She takes her time more than Gauge or I do,” said Erica. “She puts more effort into her painting.” Gauge, 9, said he likes to paint more than draw and that painting his family is his favorite subject.
