AK Steel employees volunteer at fairgrounds

COSHOCTON – When Jade Poorman was given the task of organizing AK Steel’s community service day, the fairgrounds immediately came to mind. “AK Cares is a volunteer program where employees get out and do community service,” said Poorman, who is an intern in the human resources department. “I did a lot with 4-H and knew the fairgrounds always had projects that needed working on. We called and asked what we could do and Mary (Knicely, the fairboard secretary) gave us some things.” Twenty-five to 30 AK Steel employees spent Aug. 10 at the fairgrounds power washing barns, working on a project in one of the race horse barns and other areas as they were assigned. “As the day went on they found more and more for us to do,” Poorman said.
