Museum to host documentary film night
COSHOCTON – Eden Valley Enterprises will present Trail Magic: The Grandma Gatewood Story, a documentary chronicling the journey of Emma Gatewood, the first woman to solo thru-hike the Appalachian Trail. This special film night will take place at the Johnson-Humrickhouse Museum Sept.13 at 5:30 p.m.
Born into an Ohio farming family in 1887, Emma Gatewood married at age 19 and raised 11 children, despite enduring years of violent abuse during her marriage. Upon reading a National Geographic article about the hike-ability of the Appalachian Trail, Gatewood was inspired to walk the path herself. At age 67, she set out with an army blanket, a raincoat and a plastic shower curtain, and donned a pair of Converse sneakers. What followed was a series of events that one could say mirrored the obstacles and perseverance of her life. See Gatewood’s inspiring story of tenacity and grit when Eden Valley Enterprises presents Trail Magic: The Grandma Gatewood Story, a beautifully produced, Emmy-nominated film.
The admission is $2 for adults and $1.50 for children. The documentary will be followed by a Q and A session led by an Eden Valley Enterprises representative. The film night is sponsored by the Home Loan & Savings Bank and the Joe Engle Fund.
The Johnson-Humrickhouse Museum is located in Historic Roscoe Village, a restored canal-era town, at 300 N. Whitewoman Street, Coshocton. For more information contact the museum at 740-622-8710 or at jhmuseum@jhmuseum.org.
