Hoover to share circuit rider’s wife’s story
COSHOCTON – Alice M. Hoover will share the story of Mrs. H. O. Sheldon, a circuit rider’s wife at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 16 at The Presbyterian Church, North Fourth and Chestnut Streets, Coshocton.
Hoover is a graduate of Otterbein University and wife of the Reverend Richard K. Hoover. Since her retirement from teaching at Coshocton’s Lincoln School, she continues to serve as organist at the church, volunteers in Roscoe Village, and keeps history alive with over 30 first-person portrayals. She has spent hundreds of hours in the past decade studying Rev. Sheldon’s journals and has annotated hundreds of water-stained, handwritten pages. Sheldon was a Methodist circuit rider, very much like the Presbyterian circuit riders in the early days of the Coshocton church. The morning’s presentation will be a tribute to the congregation’s 200th anniversary.
Reverend Christopher P. Stewart will be the liturgist. Musical leadership will be provided by organist Mark D. Wagner, the Chancel and Crusaders Choirs, directed by Charles R. Snyder, and the Carol Choir, directed by April L. King. The young choirs will be accompanied by Ann A. Leppla.
All are invited to join in this worship celebration. Preschool childcare will be provided and ample parking is available.
