Rain, rain, go away? Or not. Well, maybe on the weekend so we can get outside and get some fall work done. We all know that we needed some rain as the creeks and rivers were drying up and the cornstalks were turning brown probably a bit before their time – although I am not a farmer to know what exact shade the stalks should be at this point of the year. But I do know this – we received a LOT of rain over the weekend!

How much was the rain a factor in the Buckeyes victory over Rutgers? About zilch. This week may be a different story altogether as the scarlet and gray travels to Dallas to take on TCU at a “neutral” site. I am not sure how neutral a field in Texas is for a Texas based football team. As I write this the Buckeyes are a 14 point favorite and you can be assured that AT&T Stadium will be filled with lots of cheering Buckeye fans despite the trip.

Let’s turn our attention to the Cleveland Browns who, despite having way too many penalties to win an NLF game – battled their way to a tie with the arch rival Steelers on Sunday. The defense plucked several errant “Big Ben” passes out of the air. Several of the more well-known pundits mentioned that neither team really deserved to win the game – and neither did. But it does appear that the 2018 Browns may win some games.

Locally there are lots of positive things happening – especially as we head into fall. Of course, the granddaddy event is always the Coshocton County Fair which kicks off on Friday, Sept. 28 and runs through Thursday, Oct. 4. It’s always a great time for being with family near and far, visiting with old friends and a great opportunity to see some of the best that Coshocton County has to offer. I can almost smell the French Fries!

The Coshocton County Visitor’s Bureau has relaunched the Coshocton Crow Geotrail with several new locations yet retaining the feel of adventure with several of the same locations from the old trail – which is now archived. Visit the CVB website to find out more.

This week’s issue of The Beacon contains our annual Fall Home Improvement section – which is chock full of articles and tips for improving your home inside and out. The popularity of all the home “fixer upper” shows allows for a plethora of information on this topic that is relatively easy to find. We hope that you find some of the information in our section helpful and as always, please support the businesses that helped make this section possible. Our local home improvement related businesses have lots of great advice that they are willing to share – and buying local is always a good thing as those dollars are turned over many times at the local level.

Finally, while any season is a great time to call Coshocton County home there’s just something special about fall here in our community. Go. Explore Coshocton County and everything that makes it great.
