Suicide awareness event planned

COSHOCTON – Coming to Hopewell School on Saturday, Sept. 22, for the In the Darkness, Find the Light Suicide Prevention Outreach 2018 event, which is being hosted by the Suicide Prevention Coalition of Coshocton County.

September is Suicide Awareness Month and the coalition felt that it was important to do something big each year during the month of September to raise awareness around the issue of suicide and what people can do to help. Jessica Paynter, coalition co-chair has been busy planning a much bigger event than last year, the intent of the event is to help break the stigma of talking about suicide and bringing awareness to the issue.

The event will be held at Hopewell School located at 23720 Airport Road, and will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The event will include an art show; anyone who would like to participate is encouraged to submit a piece of art for the show keeping the theme of  “In the Darkness, Find the Light” in mind. Art show submissions will be accepted the day of the event until 10:30 a.m. Judging will take place at 11 a.m. with awards to be handed out at the in the afternoon after our educational presentation.

There will be a craft vendor fair from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. throughout the schools gym and cafeteria. Vendors are coming from as far as Lake Erie, Ohio and as close as right here in Coshocton. Some of the vendors this year are: Usborne Books & More, Norwex, LulaRoe, Thirty-One, Advocare, Posh, Pink Zebra, Tupperware, The Palm and Oak and many more.

There will be a car show happening outside from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Cars may start arrive at 8:30 a.m. The first 25 will receive dash plaques and then there are four trophy to be handed out at the end of the educational piece. Judging for the car show will take place at 11 a.m.

Light musical entertainment will be happening throughout the day. The The Real McCoy BBQ will be on site to provide attendees with a wonderful selection of foods.

At 1 p.m. we will begin the suicide prevention awareness portion of the event. This year’s event will focus on educating about Suicide and facts from our state.

Immediately following our educational presentation we will be conducting a drawing for the great raffle prizes that have been donated and the 50/50 drawing. Some of our raffle prizes include; autographed photos from the Pittsburgh Steelers, Chicago Cubs, and Columbus Blue Jackets; tickets to Akron Rubber Ducks, African Safari Wildlife Park; one night stay atCoshocton Village Inn and Suites; and gift cards to many great places in the surrounding areas. The price is $1 each or six for $5. Available the day of the event will be 50/50 tickets on sale throughout the day and suicide prevention t-shirts will be available for purchase $15 – $20 each..
