Llama show pays tribute to Michaela Elson
COSHOCTON – The llama show at the Coshocton County Fair paid tribute to a former member of the Kamelid Kushers who passed away in May of this year, Michaela Elson. 4-H leaders and former members of 4-H stood in Hunter Arena trying to hold back tears as they remembered Elson and the special part she played in all their lives. Emily Bookless remembered Elson in a special way by showing Elson’s llama, Ty at the fair. Elson had shown Ty for many years and now, Bookless took the reins in memory of her friend. “It’s pretty honorable,” she said about showing Ty. “She [Elson] was a friend to me and a good mentor and would do anything for anybody. A lot of doors opened for me, so if it wasn’t for her, I never would have had these opportunities.” Bookless said Elson got her interested in llamas after Bookless saw Elson’s llama at Coshocton Christian Tabernacle’s Live Nativity one year. Bookless showed Ty in Class 22 Senior Showmanship Class and earned first place in the class.
