Major Glen Clark

Major Glen Clark, 68, WheelingTownship, GuernseyCounty (Newcomerstown), passed away on Wednesday, February 13, at his residence.

Major was born in Charleston, West Virginia on July 18, 1944, and was preceded in death by his parents, Alva Clark, Newcomerstown, who died in 2002, and Virginia M. White Clark, Newcomerstown, who died in 1993.

He was a graduate of Chippewa High School, Doylestown, class of 1962. Major then began a career as a welder with Babcock & Wilcox in Barberton, where he was employed for several years. He then began a long military career with the Army from 1972 until 1991. He served during the Vietnam War and received a certificate for his work during the Desert Storm campaign. His area of expertise was working with computers and business and office equipment. While in the Army, he served two tours of duty in Alaska, two tours of duty in Germany, a tour in Korea, and also Ft. Sam Houston, Texas. After his return to civilian life in the 1990’s, he worked as a grocer and stocker for the former Thompson’s I. G. A., Newcomerstown, for a few years. He was also employed with Farm & Fleet, Cambridge, and World Wide Housing, Byesville. He was a member of the American Legion Post # 84, Cambridge. Major enjoyed hunting, fishing, and raising horses and cattle at his rural Newcomerstown residence.

In addition to his parents, Major was preceded in death by a brother, James Roger Clark, Doylestown, who was a Vietnam war casualty, 1970, and a sister, Linda Sharp, Oviedo, Florida.

He is survived by a son and his wife, Glen Allen and Bridgid Clark, Flagstaff, Arizona,  and two daughters, Terry L. and husband Jeremy Adkins, Charleston, West Virginia, and Virginia M. and husband Joe Elerick, Newcomerstown.  Also surviving are seven grandchildren, two sisters, Judith Ann and husband Steve Katona, Pocatello, Idaho, and Nancy and husband Leonard Carpenter, Doylestown, a brother and his wife, Alva Lee and Sue Clark, Wooster, and several nieces and nephews. Major also leaves to cherish his memories his special friends, Floyd and wife Brenda Beckett and Tammy Blanchard, all of Newcomerstown.

To honor Major’s requests, his remains are to be cremated. No visiting hours will be observed. Military honors and inurnment of his remains will be held on Thursday, February 21, 1:30 PM at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, 10175 Rawiga Road, Rittman. The Ourant Funeral Home is assisting Major’s family with all the arrangements.
