Fowler named BPW Woman of the Year
COSHOCTON – Members of the Coshocton BPW met Monday evening on Oct. 15 at Grace United Methodist Church to announce the 2018 Coshocton BPW Woman of the Year.
“This woman is a warrior and works through whatever life throws her way with courage and positivity,” said Tomma Bordenkircher who presented the award. “She is dedicated and committed to whatever she chooses to do.”
Carla Fowler, three-year member of Coshocton BPW and past president, was pronounced the 2018 Coshocton BPW Woman of the Year. In Fowler’s biography, Bordenkircher said that Fowler enjoys reading, hunting, and is a member of the Walhonding Rube Band. She is also a Licking County Probation Officer and an Herbalife distributor.
“I’m excited but very humbled because a lot of these ladies should be the ones up there,” said Fowler. “I was surprised because there were a lot of ladies on the ballot who have been a member a lot longer than I have that are more deserving.”
Fowler was surprised when her family came to the awards ceremony to show her their support.
Fowler and her husband, Scott were high school sweethearts and were married on Dec. 27, 2008. They welcomed their son, Colt, while living in Texas in December 2012. In talking about his wife, Scott said, “Carla is a strong, fearless and motivated woman. She works extremely hard to better herself. She is dedicated to everything she is passionate about. When it comes to being a woman she sets the bar high and is a leader and an example for young women. Carla leads by example. She is very passionate about women’s rights and gender equality.”
Cristie Merce was named the 2017 BPW Woman of the Year and gave up her title on Monday night to Carla.
“It was fun,” she said about her time as BPW Woman of the Year. “I’m happy for her [Carla]. Just wear that crown proudly.”
Carla was presented with flowers from Carey McMasters, a pin from Merce, and a plaque from Mary Mason.
