In my mind, the election could not get here soon enough. In my opinion we have enough negativity in the world and anything added on top is just a bit – well, over the top right now. Television ads and the almost daily bombardment of mailers that provide a touch of truth tinged with drama and not quite all the facts quickly become tiresome. Do your research and stake your claim on this election by uncovering the truth about a particular candidate.
The World Series is over – and for all those that constantly clamor about “it always goes to game seven”, well, no it does not as this year proved. The Red Sox hitters and even their pitchers were just too much for the Dodgers who failed in their second straight season to capture the World Series title. The Dodgers are still a very talented team though and unless they trade away their talent could make another strong run next year.
Speaking of a strong run, how about those Ridgewood Generals! The Generals football team is headed to the playoffs – taking on Amanda Clearcreek this Saturday evening, Nov. 3. The Generals finished the regular season with a 9-1 record. Good luck Generals!
And how about the Black Bears boys’ AND girls’ varsity soccer teams? Both won the district championship and are headed to their respective regional semi-final game – the girls on Tuesday, Oct. 30 at Stewart Field in Coshocton and on Wednesday, Oct. 31 the boys also play right here in Coshocton at Stewart Field after knocking off the number two seed Minerva! Good luck Black Bears!
The Coshocton Redskins boys’ golf team played their way to the state golf tournament – getting the opportunity to play on The Ohio State University golf course. That had to be a thrill. And the high school football regular season ended with a flourish as the Redskins capped off their season with a win over River View and the Generals took down the Trojans.
Our area high school athletes, musicians and students all do their best and our fall athletes and bands deserve to be complimented regardless of their record or if they made the state competitions. Every school, and every sport, goes through seasons of loss and disappointment – it is through these trials that our young people emerge more mature and ready for the challenges that adult life is going to throw at them sooner or later. It is the lesson of perseverance that makes the reward of a solid season or performance that much more enjoyable. The River View Black Bears football team is just such an example. Following several years of loss and disappointment the Bears turned the corner with a 4-6 record this year. Way to go Coach Mike Hemming and everyone that stuck with this program! And congrats to the Ridgewood Marching Generals on their Superior ranking at state!
The Buckeyes moved up to number eight following a bye week in which several teams ahead of them in the rankings lost. The team from Columbus still controls their own destiny with their college football playoff hopes coming to fruition or being dashed in the month of November – and then hopefully a matchup in the Big Ten championship game on Dec. 1. The 2018 college football season is an exciting one and will probably come down to the final week to determine the teams eligible for the playoff.
