Coshocton County Homelessness Coalition meeting coming up

| November 2, 2018

COSHOCTON – A new coalition was recently formed to address the issue of homelessness in the community that has been brought to the attention of city and county officials.

The Coshocton County Homelessness Coalition is gathering together people from churches, mental health and social services organizations, schools and government to identify reasons for the problem and try to help those who are in need.

“We’ve met three times and our goal is to provide services and support to people who are homeless and help them have a safe environment to work toward housing,” said Leane Rohr, director of the Family & Children First Council, which is heading up the coalition.

They however, are still working on how to accomplish this goal.

“We are still working on what this looks like and what the solution is,” Rohr said. “We’ve identified some causes though such as situational, choices, mental health issues and addiction because we know there is not a one size fits all reason. A lot of people are just one (unfortunate) event away from being homeless.”

The coalition has defined homeless as people who are living on the street or in vehicles.

“We wanted to have a focus and make sure we are all moving in the same direction,” Rohr said.

The Coshocton County Homelessness Coalition’s next meeting is at 3:45 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 14, in room 145 of the county services building.

“Come to a meeting and be a voice,” Rohr said. “As we move forward we will need more volunteers. We want to have a coordinated effort.”
