Hospital raises Donate Life flag
COSHOCTON – Coshocton Regional Medical Center hospital officials gathered together on Nov. 9 to raise a Donate Life flag.
“At any given time, there are approximately 115,000 people on the waiting list for an organ donation and every day an estimated 20 people including men, women and children will die while waiting for that organ,” said Lisa Jackson, chief nursing officer at the hospital. “In the time that we are standing here, another person will be added to that list requiring an organ donation in order to live.”
Jackson shared that one donor can save up to eight lives through the donation of their organs. In 2017, more than 42,000 organ donations were received sustaining life for their recipients.
“Ninety-five percent of people overwhelmingly support organ donation, but only 54 percent are actually registered to donate,” Jackson said. “Organizations such as Lifeline of Ohio work tirelessly with healthcare organizations and families to sustain life through organ donation.”
To raise awareness of the serious medical need for organ donation, Donate Life Ohio is endeavoring to raise Donate Life flags in all of its 88 counties.
“The hope is that we will all stop and pause to consider the difference that organ donation can make in someone’s life. Coshocton Regional Medical Center and Lifeline of Ohio are committed to helping raise that awareness and honoring those who have given so selflessly.”
