Howard S. Cognion

COSHOCTON – Howard S. Cognion, 75, of Coshocton passed away at his home with his family by his side on Friday January 4, 2019.

Howard was born in Coshocton on June 30, 1943 to the late Harold and Wauneita (Deeds) Cognion. He attended Plainfield High School and had worked as a timber cutter, Clow Water Systems and Peabody Coal company. Howard was also a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. He loved mushroom hunting, feeding squirrels, walking the hills around Wills Creek, camping, finding arrowheads and coins, playing marbles, being a jokester and he would always enjoy talking about history with family and friends.

He is survived by his wife Carol S. (Smithson) Cognion, whom he married February 16, 1963; three sons Troy (Tammie) Cognion of West Lafayette, Wayne (Melinda) Cognion of GA and Eugene (Connie) Cognion of Fredericksburg; one daughter Tracy (Dave) Walker of New Concord; eleven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; two sisters Carolyn (Russ) Foster of Conesville and Marilyn Wilson of Coshocton; special uncle Fred Deeds of Dresden; several nieces and nephews.

Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother Hubert Cognion and brother-in-law Kenneth Wilson.

Friends may call at The Miller Funeral Home, 639 Main St., Coshocton on Tuesday January 8, 2019 from 4 – 6 p.m. where a Catholic Wake service will begin at 6 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 805 Main St., Coshocton on Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. with Father Don Franks officiating. Burial will follow in South Lawn Cemetery.
