Health, Safety and Wellness Expo coming up
COSHOCTON – The Seventh annual Health, Safety and Wellness Expo will be held from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, Jan. 19, at Kids America, 1600 Otsego Ave.
“I’m really proud of this event,” said Amy Stockdale, executive director of the Coshocton County Chamber of Commerce. “I love that we are able to offer a free event that can be life-changing for people. I also love the fact that it’s family-friendly. There is something for everyone from kids to senior citizens.”
The expo is sponsored by the chamber of commerce, Coshocton Regional Medical Center and the Coshocton County Chamber of Commerce Safety Council. It will feature more than 30 vendors who will offer tips and information on topics such as home safety, fitness and exercise programs, nutrition, and rehabilitation from illness and injury.
“A new vendor this year is Damsel in Defense who offers personal defense items at reasonable prices,” Stockdale said. “We also have a lot of vendors who have to do with wellness and Advanced Spinal Care will be there again with free massages, which is always fun.”
Coshocton Regional Medical Center will be back again to offer life-saving health screenings including several blood tests by the lab. For best results, participants are advised to fast for 12 hours prior to completing the test. The tests and pricing are: CBC (Complete Blood Count) – $12; Chem 8 (Glucose, BUN, Creatinine, Sodium, Potassium, Chloride, Carbon Dioxide, and Calcium) – $11; Lipid Profile (Cholesterol, Triglyceride, HDL) – $18; TSH (Thyroid Stimulation Hormone) – $24; and A1C – $14. Total for all is $79.
“We couldn’t do this (the expo) without the partnership we’ve formed with Coshocton Regional Medical Center,” Stockdale said. “It’s a win-win situation. We are able to connect people to them and if they find an issue with someone they can help them make an appointment right there. A lot of people don’t like calling or going into a doctor’s office. This is a place they can come and get questions answered.”
Stockdale added that the chamber has received several calls after past expos from people sharing how it impacted their life.
“We’ve caught people with stroke level blood pressure and severe levels of skin cancer,” she said. “Even if we just save one person’s life we are making an impact on the community.”
