Ruth Lane
Ruth Lane, 93, of New Concord, died Tuesday (January 15, 2019) at Southeastern Ohio Regional Medical Center, Cambridge. She was born July 5, 1925 on Foster Avenue in Cambridge at the home of her Grandpa and Grandma Bell, and was the daughter of the late Samuel Craig Montgomery and Harriet Agnes (Bell) Montgomery. She attended North Salem Grade School and later graduated from Cambridge High School in 1943. She also attended Cambridge Business College. Ruth had worked at George Beal’s Grocery, Rose’s Department Store, Cambridge Dairy Company, and Universal Pottery. She was a member of Unity Presbyterian Church (formerly Second Presbyterian) for over sixty years. She had served as an Elder, Deacon, and Sunday School Teacher. Ruth was a member of Priscilla Circle, Hopewell Homemakers, and the Election Board. She joined the Guernsey Fair Board in 1995, after serving as an associate member since 1968. She retired from the Fair Board in 2010. She enjoyed square dancing.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Lane, who died in 1995. They were married on November 24, 1951. Also deceased is a son, Rodney Oren Lane; and a brother, George Montgomery.
She is survived by three sons, William Montgomery Lane of New Concord, Richard Lee (& Gloria) Lane of Cambridge, and Randy Keith (& Kay) Lane of West Lafayette; a sister, MaryEllen Pattison of Cambridge; two grandchildren, Felicia Nicole (& Craig) Hunter and Paige Elise Lane; and a great-grandchild, Coleston Allen Hunter. Visitation will be held Friday (January 18, 2019) from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Thorn-Black Funeral Home, Cambridge, where funeral services will be held Saturday (January 19, 2019) at 11 a.m. with Rev. Jim Gibson officiating. Burial will be at Northwood Cemetery, Cambridge.In lieu of flowers, Ruth requested donations be made to the Unity Presbyterian Church, 130 N 7th Street, Cambridge OH 43725.
