Gertrude Carnahan
Gertrude “Maxine” Carnahan, age 96, passed away Tuesday, January 15, 2019 at Windsorwood Place. She was born on July 21, 1922 in Coshocton. She was a 1940 graduate of Coshocton High School. On August 17, 1940, she married George Allen Carnahan, who passed away in April of 1996. She was a long time member of the Trinity Episcopal Church where she was a Sunday school teacher. She was also a brownie leader for the youth. In 1960, she started at Shaw Barton, where she served as union president for nine years. In 1988, she was inducted into the Ohio Women’s Hall of Fame by Governor Celeste for her work on women’s rights in labor. She was a pivotal part in the Coshocton Senior Center and served on the levy committee and was the Senior Travel Club organizer. She served on the Kno-Ho-Co- Board and the Board of Elections. She was also the Senior Canal Queen. Maxine loved to be involved in her community and helping others.
She is survived by her children, Michele (Bob) Fetters of Coshocton, Elaine (Steve) Benich of Twinsburg, Lexine (Eric) Toukonen of Uhrichsville, Kelly (Lisa) Carnahan of Florida and Kerry (Chere) Carnahan of Florida; grandchildren, Scott and Chad Johnson, Brad Benich, Kayne Toukonen, Britini Barino, Ian Carnahan, Mallory Stringer, Jody Edmunds and Bob Fetters, Jr; step-grandchildren, Tyler and Katie; great-grandchildren, McKenna, Kelbie, Peyton, Jordan, Harrison, Eddie, Brayden, Brooklyn, Braxton, Beckham, Noble, Honor and Creed; two great great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Along with her husband, she is preceded in death by her siblings, Mildred Gaither, Lucille Hains, Joyce Newman and Ron Haxton and son, William Allen Carnahan.
Calling hours will be at the Given-Dawson-Paisley Funeral Home on Friday, January 18, 2019 from 11am to 1pm. The funeral service will be on Friday at the funeral home beginning at 1pm with Pastor Mark Granger officiating. Burial will follow at South Lawn Cemetery.
