COSHOCTON – Tables of chocolate delights made by volunteers will greet attendees of the Pomerene Center for the Arts 27th annual Chocolate Extravaganza.

“Last year we had about 85 bakers and they don’t always make just one dessert,” said Donovan Rice, event coordinator and house and grounds manager at the Pomerene Center. “Mike Abood has made five or seven cheesecakes for us before. This year I sent out over 130 invitations to bakers and I’m expecting at least half of those to bring something in.”

This annual fundraiser for the Pomerene Center for the Arts will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 9 at the Coshocton County Career Center.

“With your ticket you will be able to make choices from the sweets and treats, cake and torts, and cheesecake and pie tables,” Rice said. “You’ll be able to get a dessert or two from each table and end up with a variety of things. It won’t just be one piece of cake or a tiny chocolate.”

Advance tickets are $10 and available at the Pomerene Center, Hannah Marie’s, Dean’s Jewelry, Mercantile on Main, CC Village Market in West Lafayette, and Medbery Marketplace in Roscoe Village. Tickets at the door will be $12.

“This is a big fundraiser for us,” Rice said. “After expenses we usually make around $4,000. We have an amazing group of volunteers that help make that happen. They show up year after year. We have a core group that we really rely on. Those who have moved on from it passed their spirit on to others.”

Entertainment at the chocolate extravaganza will be provided by a men’s quartet, which will travel from table to table to sing for attendees. There also will be a huge selection of raffle items.

“We’ve nearly doubled our raffle items this year thanks to Kathy Gwinn who joined the Pomerene board and chocolate extravaganza committee,” Rice said.

New to this year’s event will be a heart bombing project being organized by Our Town Coshocton.

“There will be cut out paper hearts that people can write on and share what buildings in Coshocton are important to them,” Rice said. “The hearts will be put on the buildings to raise awareness about the historical value they hold. It’s a neat idea. We are hoping to help them get a lot of hearts filled out and see buildings plastered in them.”
