Renner enjoys calling Coshocton County home

CONESVILLE – Jarred Renner has called Coshocton County home since 1994.

He moved here from Baltic with his parents and brothers to a small farm between Keene and New Bedford.

“We went from living in town to 25 acres where we could run and have fun in the woods,” Renner said. “I think my mom and dad wanted us boys to have that freedom.”

The farm, however, is also where he learned work ethic lessons that he has carried with him through his career in education.

“We had horses and a few head of cattle, but we mostly made hay,” Renner said. “When it was time to cut hay that is what you did. Everything else took a back seat.”

In addition to working on the farm, he and his brothers were involved in school and community activities.

“My parents, Jeff and Sue, instilled a sense of service and community in me and my brothers, Joel and Judson,” Jarred said. “I was involved in a variety of activities, sports, clubs, and organizations while attending River View. I enjoyed participating in 4-H, Junior Leaders, various youth groups, basketball, soccer, swimming, baseball and Coshocton County Youth leadership.”

Jeff passed away when Jarred was in seventh grade and the community rallied around his family and helped Sue continue to keep the boys involved and active.

“I saw all these coaches, teachers, and members of the church we were attending at the time (Keene United Methodist Church) do things like bring mom meals and help run us around especially the Porteus and Lindsey families,” Jarred said. “People took time to help us out during a difficult time.”

Jarred wanted to be that person for others, so after graduating from River View High School in 2002, he pursued a degree in education.

“A lot of kids don’t have mom or dad at home, but here at school those kids can come talk to me,” he said. “There is research that shows kids just need one adult to inspire them.  If I can do that for a kid or two than that makes this job worth it.”

Jarred earned his bachelor’s degree from Mount Vernon Nazarene University and now has two master’s degrees. He has taught in the River View School system since 2010 after four years as the activities coordinator at Kids America. During his time at River View, he has served the district as an intervention specialist, Union Elementary School principal and now Conesville Elementary School’s principal.

“My family is here, my wife is from here and I just really have a heart for this community,” Jarred said.

He lives in Tyndall with his wife Cara, three children Caden, Kensie and Lucy and their Shih Tzu named Jasmine.

“I cannot dream of a better place to raise my family,” Jarred said. “We are members of a great congregation at Calvary Baptist, enjoy the many activities available around the county for our children and serve in a variety of capacities in the community.”

He encourages everyone to find a place to contribute in the community.

“There are so many ways to serve, inspire others or encourage our youth in Coshocton County,” Jarred said. “Find your niche and do great things for Coshocton County.”
