Students, volunteers enjoy track and field day

COSHOCTON – Coshocton High School seniors Alyssa Casey and Paris White were happy to be volunteering again at the Kiwanis Special Olympics Track & Field Day.
“I like seeing everyone laugh, smile and have a good time,” Casey said.
White added that they look forward to the event and that she enjoys being around all the kids.
She and Casey are part of the Key Club at CHS, which provided volunteers for the track and field day held March 14 at Kids America.
The day started off with a parade of athletes and then students competed in various activities.
“I really like the parade of athletes,” said Felicia Hunter, who is a paraprofessional with first graders at Ridgewood Elementary. “Everyone cheers for the kids and it gets them pumped for the day.”
Jaycie Parmiter was very proud of the two ribbons she had pinned to her chest. The Hopewell School preschooler said one was from racing and the other from soccer.
“I really liked kicking the soccer ball,” Parmiter said.
Her classmate Will Dovenbarger also earned two ribbons at the same events.
“Running was my favorite,” he said. “It was so cool.”
Javanna Ramsey has attended the event as a volunteer and an employee of Hopewell.
“I enjoy the sports and being around the kids,” she said. “I love this and don’t ever want to step away from it. Every year it gets better and better.”
