River View’s Huston taking golf game to Muskingum

WARSAW – River View High School’s Lucas Huston is taking his golf game to the college level.
The RVHS senior signed his letter of intent to golf at Muskingum University on March 19 while surrounded by family and friends.
“I picked Muskingum because of academics and the coach,” Huston said. “I like to golf because I get to hang out with friends. It also has a different feel than basketball because you get to know the people you are playing with.”
His mom and dad Shanda and Curtis Huston are pleased with his choice. Shanda graduated from Muskingum and his sister also goes to school there.
“It was a difficult decision,” Shanda said. “He put a lot of thought into it. He had it narrowed down to two schools, but it came down to golf and academics. He started golfing in seventh grade and I remember being at the first match and thinking what have we gotten ourselves into. We got to see him improve over the past six years and grow as a player.”
Lucas is thankful for their support over the years.
“My parents and my coaches have been supportive and helped push me to where I am today,” he said.
River View Head Golf Coach Chad Gress said Lucas is a good ball striker and has greatly improved his mental game over the last three years.
“It’s good to see him be able to move on,” Gress said. “I’ve been coaching here for eight years and he is the second player I’ve had sign to play in college. That’s pretty exciting to see for River View golf.”
Lucas encouraged his younger teammates to keep working hard.
“I think they could all do this (golf in college) if they want too,” he said.
