Ohio EPA to hold second meeting to discuss injection wells
COSHOCTON – Ohio EPA will hold a second public meeting to discuss draft permits-to-operate (originally submitted Aug. 31, 2018) for two Class I non-hazardous waste injection wells at the Buckeye Brine facility in Coshocton. If approved, the permits would allow the facility to convert two existing Class II wells to Class I status.
An information session will begin at 6 p.m., on Monday, April 15, at Coshocton High School, 1205 Cambridge Road, immediately followed by a hearing to accept public comments on the draft permits. During the meeting, Ohio EPA will discuss the draft permit and the agency’s review of comments received during the fall of 2018. Because of extensive public interest and the number of comments the agency received, Ohio EPA has re-opened the comment period for the draft permits.
If the draft permits are approved, the injection wells would be allowed to accept only non-hazardous wastes. To prevent drinking water impacts, these wells are designed for injecting wastes far below the lowermost source of drinking water.
Ohio EPA will accept written comments on the draft permits through Friday, April 19. Anyone may submit comments or request to be on the mailing list for information.
