Oh, spring is on the way, spring is on the way. So the calendar indicates. I am finding it hard to believe. Monday morning (it is March 18) dawned cold and rainy with a bit of ice thrown in for good measure. Jeez. Most everyone I talk to is tired of winter. I am among that group. Of course, I will be among those complaining when the mercury hits 90 or higher this summer. Remember last July? Yikes. Seems like a distant memory now as is typical. Perhaps we should just accept the weather as it comes and goes. We can’t change it anyway.

All right Buckeye fans – this could be the bracket we’ve been waiting for. A number two seed in the west region pits the Buckeyes against Iona this Friday and then a matchup against New Mexico. The ferocity and physicality of the Big 10 conference will give the Buckeyes an edge in the bracket. The Badgers are out there too and should run into Gonzaga. I have not watched Gonzaga this year so I cannot make a logical prediction but I predict the Buckeyes will make it to Atlanta. Playing the first weekend in Dayton is also huge. As most Buckeye fans know, the Dayton site has not always been kind to the team from Columbus. But perhaps there is something special about this group of young men. They don’t rattle easy, have faced their nemesis, the Badgers, and came away victorious. Let’s take one game at a time.

You will find our annual “Faith Renewed” section inside this edition of The Beacon. This special section provides articles on what is happening in the world of faith in Coshocton County as well as listings of all area churches. Our news team of Josie and Beth worked hard to give you, our readers, a glimpse into the world of faith as we know it here in our community. There are many people, paid and volunteer, that are diligently serving and working to help others that are less fortunate, have fallen on hard times or perhaps just need a friend in their time of need. Please let us know what you think of “Faith Renewed” as your opinions and suggestions help us improve.

Of special significance is a full color poster on page 11 that is the Lord’s Prayer for Coshocton. Coshocton city Mayor Steve Mercer was inspired to do this and you can read his thoughts on page 10 of “Faith Renewed”. People praying for this community will help this community.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to Stephanie (Lapp) Snyder, husband Pat and daughter Addy. If you know this story, your heart has surely been touched. The Snyder family, the medical staff and all those surrounding little Addy need the prayers of this community for a liver. There is a benefit at River View High School this Friday evening, March 22 from 5 to 8 p.m. A spaghetti dinner, Chinese raffle and a 50/50 drawing are part of the evening’s activities. More details are in this week’s community calendar. Please plan to attend and support the family.
