RVHS Teen Leadership Corps holds first color run

COSHOCTON – After their 5K last spring, the Teen Leadership Corps (TLC) group at River View High School planned on holding another one this year. Last fall, they decided to make it a color run. Recently, they decided that all proceeds of the run would go to benefit local families who have children battling health issues.
Rachel Allen is a senior at River View and one of the committee members for the color run. “We knew about three of the students that are having health issues and we heard about one in Newcomerstown through their TLC class. We decided to split all of our proceeds between the four families to help them through this tough time.”
Allen and Alicia Lonsinger, another committee member, shared that when they contacted the families about doing this, the moms of the children started to cry. “They were so overwhelmed that we wanted to help them and that the community was doing this for them,” said Allen.
More than 50 people pre-registered for the event and more signed up the day of the event. It was held on Saturday, May 11 at Lake Park. Six color stations were set up around the park and different colored powder was tossed on runners/walkers as they passed each point. They would go by each station twice. “Hopefully, they will be really covered by the end,” said Allen. Registration was $25 and included a t-shirt.
Lonsinger said it means a lot to her to have the color run. “I love that it brings together something I love – running – with helping others.”
Stephanie Snyder is the teacher for the TLC class. She was registering people for the run. When asked what she thought about the class holding the color run, she said, “It says a lot about the students. This was all their idea to donate to these families. These are community minded kids – it’s so important that they understand the needs of others and giving back to the community.”
