River View Community Pool celebrates 50 years

WARSAW – Warsaw Village Councilman Jesse Fischer welcomed community members to the opening day of the River View Community Pool at the park in Warsaw.
“We are here to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the River View Community Pool,” said Fischer. He said that in 1967, a group of community members and several organizations came together to decide how to get a pool for the area. “It took two years of planning and fundraising before the pool was built in 1969 at a cost of $61,000.” It opened on May 30.
Fischer said that first summer, family passes for the pool were $32 and about 14,000 people visited that summer. Entrance to the pool cost $1 for adults and $0.50 for students. He also shared that first summer, many volunteers worked to keep the lawn mowed and the pool clean to help keep costs down.
Warsaw Mayor Pastor Ron Davis read a proclamation from the village council for Chester “Chet” Beard. Beard has been a volunteer with the pool since it opened and both Fischer and Davis said his help has been invaluable. The proclamation stated that the village is “forever grateful” for his “outstanding contributions” to the park and pool. After the proclamation was read, members of Beard’s family helped unveil a plaque honoring Beard that will be placed near the front entrance of the pool. Beard was unable to attend the ceremony as he is recovering from a recent surgery.
Fischer and his brother, Corey Fischer, held a ribbon as Davis cut it to officially open the pool for this summer.
