James Helter to be hired as CHS basketball coach
COSHOCTON – James Helter was hired as the new head boys’ basketball coach at Coshocton High School at the board of education meeting on Thursday, June 20. Helter started his career as the head girls’ basketball coach at Malvern High School for four years and then moved to Buckeye Trail High School as the head girls coach for two years.
While at Coshocton, Helter has been an instrumental part of both the boys and girls basketball programs over the years. Most recently, he spent the past five years as the varsity assistant boys basketball coach. He also contributed in other sports such as baseball, football, golf, softball, and track throughout his coaching career.
Helter is a graduate of Lakeland High School and he earned his education degree from the University of Akron. He is married to wife Michelle and he has two children CJ and Hailey.
“We are very excited to have James Helter as our new head boys basketball coach. Over the past 20 years in our district, he has proven to be an outstanding educator and coach. He is a great competitor in everything that he does and he is a true believer in the fundamentals of the game. I know that he will do well in his new leadership role in our program,” said Tim Fortney, athletic director at Coshocton High School.
