Museum offering dye workshop to children ages 6-15
COSHOCTON – The Johnson-Humrickhouse Museum will host a dye workshop for ages 6-15, provided and directed by artist Carolyn Mann at 10 a.m. on Thursday, July 18. The workshop will last approximately one hour and finished work may be picked up the same day after 2 p.m. The program aims to teach children about color theory as well as design elements involved in the tying and dying process. Children will make their own dyed shirts provided by the museum and are welcome to bring a pair of cotton socks to dye as well. Parents are asked to send kids in old clothes as the dye will stain.
Mann is an experienced quilter and dye artist who has been creating work since childhood. Although the skill has been passed down through the generations of women in her family, the technique and style has changed greatly over the years. Her work can be seen displayed in many churches and institutions, as well as a current display in the Contemporary Art Quilt Show titled “Pushing the Surface” at the Johnson-Humrickhouse Museum. Mann has received numerous awards and ribbons for her work, but believes the true reward is the joy that is experienced by creating something meaningful to others as well as herself.
Cost for the program is $5 per child, $4 per child for Friends of the Museum, and program space is limited. Please provide shirt sizes for each child registered.
