Lightning McQueen makes appearance at car show
COSHOCTON – This past Saturday on July 20, Coshocton’s Main Street experienced a traffic jam from another era. Cars from decades past lined the street for the 22nd annual Three Rivers Car Show. Put on by the Three Rivers Fire District, this car show helps raise money for firefighting equipment for the district. This show has been hosted in Coshocton for 22 years now but was just recently moved from the fairgrounds to Main Street.
Rick and Cathy Mighen made the journey all the way from Kimbolton, but they didn’t originally come to see the show. “We had to come over and pay a bill,” Rick laughed then continued. “Saw the sign and decided to stop over. We like going to car shows anyway.” The couple has been to car shows in Kimbolton, Cambridge, Newcomerstown, and of course, Coshocton. Finding this show was a happy coincidence for them too.
They’re not the only ones who’ve traveled far and wide for car shows though. Susan and Roxane also told a little bit about their passion for car shows and where that passion has taken them. They went to The Good-Guys car show in Columbus last weekend and even stop at various car shows when they’re on vacation. Susan loves the comradery of it. Roxane agreed saying, “Everyone has a common interest because we’re all interested in vehicles no matter what type and not just your own. That’s kind of neat.”
Though the people are great, there was one show stopper at the car show that the “little” people sure seemed to love. Lightning McQueen, the famous race car from the Disney movie “Cars” made an appearance at the show. Robert Lawrence decked out a 1992 Dodge Stealth RT to look just like Lightning McQueen including all the stickers and a license plate named “stickers” too. Though every other car at the show was a look and don’t touch, Lawrence welcomed kids to sit in and touch this famous car.
Lawrence said he was inspired to make the car because he works for Jim’s Towing in Newcomerstown where he has a Tow Mater, and of course, the sweet little Alexander, Robert’s son, loves Lightning McQueen. Alexander even spilled the beans and said that his dad plans to buy and rebuild another Lightening McQueen but as Robert put it, “Daddy’s version. Fast.”
Whether you love Lightning McQueen like Alexander does or if you think “the older the better” like Rick and Cathy do, there was a car for everyone’s interests. The car show had everything from polished classics to Hallmark level pickup trucks to army motorcycles. And though there were trophies and winners, each car was there for the same reason the people were the comradery and love of vehicles.
