William Garbrandt
William Garbrandt 74 of Zanesville, the tough as nails (except around needles), caring, give your shirt off his back guy, passed away July 28, 2019, deciding not to let cancer get him by going quietly in his sleep.
If you knew Bill as he was called, you were beyond lucky. He always had a sly smile when you told him a joke but could stare a hole through you if you did him wrong or didn’t show up on time. Bill became smitten with the young Patricia Strode in the late 1960s and they married in 1968, celebrating 50 years in 2018 surrounded by their kids and grandkids.
Bill proudly served three years in the Army before getting married and always regarded his time in the military with honor and recognized those that served before and after him any chance he got. After getting married Bill settled in Coshocton with Patricia and they had three children Bill Jr., Michelle and Michael. He worked at Stone Container for over 35 years and through that work taught his children the value of hard work, dedication and loyalty. After retirement they moved to Zanesville out in the country where he and Patricia always wanted to be and bought all the motorized toys he always wanted to have and taught his grandkids how to use all of them and enjoyed many a beautiful sunset on the banks of the Muskingum River. He was also an avid fisherman and hunter and passed that along to all his kids and grandkids, at least the fishing part of that.
Bill is survived by kids Bill Jr. (Chris) of Nashport, Michelle Ray (Scott) of Zanesville and Mike (Wendy) of Lancaster, grandkids Kelsey, Maia, Libby, Conner, Christopher, Will and Michael and his siblings Mary, Marla, Kathy, Tim, John and Gene, and many nieces and nephews. William was preceded in death by his parents Mae and Lawrence Garbrandt and his sister Lois, and brothers Terry, Gary and Jim.
In lieu of flowers the family is asking donations to be made to Honor Flight Columbus, P.O. Box 12036, Columbus, Ohio 43212.
A private memorial service will be held at the family home at a later date.
