It is difficult to write about the joys and wonderful events that we can experience here in Coshocton County with tragedies happening across the nation, specifically this past weekend in El Paso, Texas and Dayton, Ohio. The simple answer is to say that hate is a human behavior that has yet to be solved. But it probably goes deeper than that and the solution to this problem is complex at best. This is something that the President must get involved in whether it is to gather a group of leaders from around the nation that understand the human mind and emotions or pursue a path to a solution via Congress. Can the government solve everything with legislation? No, but a conversation must be initiated at the highest level.
On the local scene, there was plenty to do over the weekend and there is lots more coming up. Let’s start with the United Way of Coshocton County “Taste of Coshocton” – slated for later this week. Yum, yum! And just like an ice cream social, folks start lining up early for this one – and for good reason. Where else can you get a taste of some of the best that Coshocton County can serve up? See you at the Lake Park Pavilion on Thursday, August 8th!
Then a week later you can enjoy the beauty of The Sunflower at the KOA Sunflower Festival. This event has grown in popularity across the county and the region bringing guests in from many miles. Enjoy.
As usual on the first weekend of August several folks got up way early to start cooking those delicious chickens at the Warsaw Park Social and Chicken BBQ. I hope your chicken was delicious and your duck won the race or at least got second or third place. A lot of folks put in a lot of time and energy to make that event happen – and the purpose is a good one. You couldn’t have asked for better weather and that’s for sure. Thanks folks for what you do.
A couple more popular events will occur at about the farthest points that an event could be held from each other and still be considered in Coshocton County. Why of course, it’s the annual Bakersville Homecoming and the New Castle G.A.R. bean dinner! The Bakersville Homecoming is this weekend and the bean dinner is on Sunday, August 18. Remember, always the third Sunday in August.
And let’s not forget about the Walhonding Rube Band – who performed at the Warsaw social this past Sunday and you can bet they will be out in force at the bean dinner.
Let’s thank all those that made “First Farm Friday” possible this past week – it was a lot of fun on a warm Friday evening. To all those that bring the tractors, farm equipment, livestock, set up the displays and more, thank you. It makes a lot of little kids happy and they learn something too.
The Tribe is winning but catching Minnesota is going to take beating the Twins at their own game – NOW – there are 10 games remaining against the Twins – with seven of those games at Minnesota including a very important four game set starting this Thursday. The Tribe needs to win six or seven of those 10 games. The Pirates, forget about it this year. The Reds still have a slight chance. Just my thoughts.
