NAMI to host Family-to-Family mental health awareness
COSHOCTON – It’s okay to admit having a loved one who is struggling with mental health issues or a diagnosis presents special challenges. The Family-to-Family course is here to help.
Family-to-Family is an educational/supportive course for family, caregivers, and friends of individuals living with mental illness.
These free 12 classes will start on Sept. 10 and meet every Tuesday evening through November 26 from 6 to 8:30 p.m. All materials are provided.
These courses will be held at a new location: 1500 Coal Run Road, Zanesville. This is the new home of the Mental Health and Recovery Services Board. Look for first parking area as you pull in and the door marked MHRSB Conference Room Entrance Only. This is on the side of the building facing the road.
The Family-to-Family course is taught by trained family members of individuals living with mental illness and provides information on a wide range of diagnoses, including co-occurring substance use disorders, the impact of mental illness and addiction on the brain, current treatments – including medication and evidence-based therapies, skills related to managing crises, solving problems and communicating effectively, strategies for self-care including management of stress and emotional overload, and locating appropriate local support and services.
