More than 200 attend employment expo

COSHOCTON – Jennifer Brenneman always looks forward to the Ohio Means Jobs Coshocton County Employment Expo.
“It brings in a good pool of candidates for us,” said the human resources generalist for Coshocton Regional Medical Center. “We get to see and talk to a lot of people. It’s also another way we can get our name out there and remind people that we are here to help.”
The hospital was one of 62 employers who attended the employment expo held on Sept. 5 at Lake Park Pavilion.
“We’ve been able to put names with faces and people have been able to put their resumes out there,” Brenneman said. “We currently have 18 positions open and they range from housekeeping to nursing.”
April Weinberg, recruitment specialist for RHDD, said they also saw a steady flow of people at the expo.
“It’s been very productive,” she said. “We’ve had some good conversations with people.”
Weinberg said they are hiring for direct support professionals in Coshocton and Holmes counties.
“We’ve taken a lot of applications,” she said. “This is a very beneficial event for us.”
AJ West represented Rural King at the expo.
“It’s nice to be able to put a name to a face,” said the store’s administrative coordinator. “There has been a nice turnout today. We’ve seen a lot more people than we thought we would.”
Lynn Jacobs, Ohio Means Jobs Administrator, said they also were pleased with the turnout.
“We’ve been pleasantly surprised,” he said. “We weren’t sure how many people we’d have with the economy the way it is. People are out there working, but we’ve already had 225 come through. I think we could surpass last year’s (attendance) number. We’ve had people come who are working, but looking for better jobs or to go to that next level.”
Jacobs also was excited about the number of employers at the expo, which had grown from about 50 to 62 the day of the expo.
“We had people calling until the day before,” he said. “Our first year doing this we had 48 and it’s been growing every year. A lot of people are hiring on the spot, but pretty much everyone is committed to hire before the end of the year.”
