Local Events

Military and First Responders Appreciation Day: 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 14, AMVETS Post 36 parking lot, 986 Otsego Ave. There will be live entertainment, silent auction items, 50/50 raffle and food and drinks by the AMVETS. Several different organizations will have vehicles on display and there will be a silent auction for a 2006 GMC 4×4 1500 truck. Proceeds from the silent auction will go toward the purchase of a new DAV van used to transport county veterans to their VA medical appointments.

 

Fall Festival: Altercare Coshocton will have a Fall Festival on Saturday, Sept. 14 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Your choice of a BBQ pork sandwich or loaded baked potato with meal. Cost is $8. Entertainment throughout the day and community bingo at 1 p.m. Other events throughout the day. Also featuring Disney characters. Flat Broke Run: The third annual Flat Broke Run for Kids will be Sept. 14 at the Army Navy, 628 Walnut St., Coshocton. There will be a veterans’ benefit breakfast at 9 a.m. Registration will be at 10 a.m. All vehicles welcome. First bike out at 11 a.m. Last bike out at 1 p.m. Last bike in at 6 p.m. Silent auction, tattoo contest, door prizes, raffles, and live music. $20 per rider, $30 per couple. Coshocton ArtPrize Show: The fourth annual Pomerene Center for the Arts Coshocton artPrize show closes Friday, Sept. 20, so time’s running out to vote for the $500 People’s Choice award. Bad Boyz Mud Bog: The next Bad Boyz Mud Bog of the season, 44840 SR 541, Coshocton, will be Saturday, Sept. 28. Gates open at 10 a.m. Event starts at 1 p.m. General admission is $5. Bluegrass Music: Three Rivers Bluegrass Music and Relay for Life Team Alana presents bluegrass music at Coshocton Village Inn and Suites, 115 N. Water St., on SR 541 beside McDonald’s, once a month. Education of Yesterday: Country Crossroads presents Education of Yesterday’s 15th annual farm show on Saturday, Oct. 19 and Sunday, Oct. 20 at 3685 Cass Irish Ridge Rd., Dresden. Veterans Fair Passes: Free fair passes for military veterans for the Coshocton County Fair are being made possible again through the Blue Star Mother’s Chapter OH59 and the Coshocton County Veterans Council. Passes are good for one free admission to the fair from Oct. 1 through Oct 4. The fair runs from Sept. 27 through Oct. 3. Passes can be obtained from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 9 to 25 at the Coshocton County Veterans Service Office. Bring proof of residency and either your military/veterans ID card or DD-214 form. Baby Photo Contest: Sept. 20, at 4 p.m., is the deadline to enter the Baby Photo Contest sponsored by the Pregnancy Distress Center. Contestants from Coshocton County must be born on or after Sept. 30, 2017. Board Meeting: Coshocton Metropolitan Housing Authority (CMHA) will have their next board meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 24 at 5:30 p.m. in the CMHA Learning Center, 823 Magnolia St., Coshocton. The purpose of this meeting is to discuss regular business.

 

Free Family Law Clinic: There will be a free family law clinic for Coshocton County throughout the year. This advice clinic is for low-income individuals. Sign in is at 1:45 p.m. the day of the clinic and is limited to 16 qualified individuals. It will be held at the Coshocton County Juvenile Court, 426 Main St., Coshocton. Election Meeting: The Coshocton County Board of Elections will have their next meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 8 at 8:30 a.m.

 

CCRPC Meeting: The Coshocton County Regional Planning Commission Executive Committee meeting that was to be held on Monday, Sept. 9 in the Commissioners Conference Room at 3:30 p.m. has been cancelled. Euchre Tournament: There will be a euchre tournament and live auction at the Moose Lodge of Coshocton on Friday, Sept. 13. The live auction begins at 4 p.m. and the euchre tournament will start at 6 p.m. Cost is $20 per team. All proceeds will benefit Troy Berry and his continued fight against multiple sclerosis. Bowling Benefit: Legacy Lanes and Lounge will have a Step on the Lane – Strike Out Violence on Friday and Saturday, Nov. 1 and 2 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Two-hour time limit, four-person team, minimum sponsorship, $300 per team. Sponsor includes two games, shoes, t-shirt, and pizza. All proceeds to benefit the First Step Family Violence Intervention Services.

Yuengling Scramble Series: Zoar Golf Club has announced the addition to the Yuengling Scramble Series. A Senior Masters two-man scramble will be Saturday, Oct. 5. Lapsit, Coshocton Public Library: Large Meeting Room, Wednesdays starting Sept. 11, 10 to 10:30 a.m., Thursdays starting Sept. 12, 10 to 10:30 a.m., West Lafayette Branch Library, Tuesdays starting Sept. 10, 10 to 10:30 a.m.: For babies and toddlers, birth to three years, Lapsit is focused on early literacy and socialization skills through rhyme, rhythm, fingerplays, and music, all from the security of the lap of a parent or caregiver. We spend 20 minutes on a structured circle time, read the shortest of stories, and then enjoy parachute play, art projects, musical instruments, bubbles, or other fun activities. Letterland, Coshocton Public Library: Large Meeting Room, Wednesdays starting Sept. 11, 11 to 11:30 a.m., West Lafayette Branch Library, Tuesdays starting Sept. 10, 11 to 11:30 a.m.: Join us each week for our preschool storytime as we travel to a place called Letterland. We will meet engaging letter characters, read theme-related stories and sing songs, learn rhymes, do arts and crafts, and many other fun activities. Preschool storytime also helps children develop many social skills, such as self-regulation and peer interaction. This event is for children ages three to six. Registration is not required.

 

Friends of the Library Monthly Meeting, Coshocton Public Library: Large Meeting Room, Wednesday, Sept. 11, Noon to 1 p.m.: All members of the FOL are welcome to join us at the monthly meeting on the second Wednesday of each month at noon. We discuss bookstore business, volunteer opportunities, and the many ways we can help the library. We are always happy to have new members with fresh ideas! Registration is not required.

 

Family Quilts: An Evening for Grandparents and Grandchildren, Coshocton Public Library: Large Meeting Room, Monday, Sept. 16, 6 to 7:30 p.m.: Making quilts is one way that families express their creativity, preserve their history, and show their love for one another. Join us for a fun evening crafting a family quilt that celebrates the GRAND relationship between grandparents and grandchildren. But don’t worry. No sewing is required because these quilts will be made of paper, paint, markers, and other fun art supplies. All materials will be provided. Registration is required. Just for Fun Fall Book Club, Coshocton Public Library: Large Meeting Room, Thursday, Sept. 19, 4:30 to 5:30 p.m.: Kids aged 7 to 12 are invited to join us for a special autumn book club. We will meet once a month in September, October, and November to discuss three great novels. Books will be available to borrow from the library four weeks before each session. Teen Night @ the Branch, West Lafayette Branch Library, Thursday, Sept. 19, 5 to 7 p.m.: Join us on the third Thursday of each month for games, art, activities, and snacks. Public Technology Education, Coshocton Public Library, Mondays, 2 to 4 p.m., by appointment: Individual assistance is available for those needing help with an app or software, or who want to learn more about digital services the library offers. Call the reference desk at 740-622-0956 to schedule an appointment with our digital technology educator. Sessions are 30 minutes. This service is for educational purposes only. We cannot repair, fix, troubleshoot, or diagnose malfunctioning devices or software.

 

Books Galore Book Store, Coshocton Public Library: Basement, Mondays 3 to 6 p.m., Wednesdays, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturdays 10 a.m. – 1 p.m.: Gently used books, DVDs, videos, and magazines for sale at rock bottom prices. The bookstore is located in the basement of the Coshocton Public Library and operated by the Friends of the Library. All proceeds benefit the library, the West Lafayette Branch, and the bookmobile. Open to the public for cash sales only.

 

Family Night at the Library – Preschoolers, Coshocton Public Library: Small Meeting Room, Tuesdays, 6:45 to 7:15 p.m.: Join us each week for our preschool storytime as we travel to a place called Letterland. We will meet engaging letter characters, read theme-related stories and sing songs, learn rhymes, do arts and crafts, and many other fun activities. Preschool storytime also helps children develop many social skills, such as self-regulation and peer interaction. Registration is not required. Letterland is for children ages three to six and will take place in the small meeting room in the library.

 

Family Night at the Library – School-Agers, Coshocton Public Library: Large Meeting Room, Tuesdays, 6:45 to 7:15 p.m.: Children ages 7 to 12 are invited to join us each week for STEAM Club (science/ technology/ engineering/ arts/ math). We will experiment with science and engineering, work on coding and have fun with different art media! For a full list of activities, pick up our STEAM bookmark. Registration is not required.

 

Chi Class, Roscoe United Methodist Church: Gym, Thursdays, year-round, 10 to 11 a.m.: Join the Coshocton Public Library at the Roscoe United Methodist Church Gym to practice gentle exercises that reduce stress and increase vitality. Chi Class is taught by Holli Rainwater, a Certified Tai Chi Easy Practice Leader. Registration is not required.
