Local Events

 

Spaghetti Supper: Saturday, Nov. 9 from 4 to 7 p.m., the Three Rivers Fire Station, South Station, 714 Cedar St., Coshocton. Menu will include spaghetti, salad, bread, drink, and dessert. Cost is by donation. Money raised will go toward purchasing new dual band pagers.

 

Bluegrass Music: Three Rivers Bluegrass Music and Relay for Life Team Alana presents bluegrass music at Coshocton Village Inn and Suites, 115 N. Water St., on SR 541 beside McDonald’s, once a month. Admission is $7 per person; those 12 and under, no charge. Featured band is from 7 – 9:15 p.m. Acoustic jam is 9:30 – 10:30 p.m. For information, call 740-498-8456. The next event will be Nov. 23 and the featured band will be Crab Grass Band.

Mammograms: The Coshocton City Health Department is sponsoring mammography screenings offered by OSU The James Mobile Mammography Unit on Wednesday, Oct. 30 from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at 400 Browns Lane. Trick or Treat Dresden: The Village of Dresden will observe Trick or Treat on Thursday, Oct. 31 from 5:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.

 

Altercare Trick or Treat: Altercare Coshocton will have Trick or Treat on Thursday, Oct. 31 from 6 to 7 p.m. Come for a safe and fun trick or treat.

 

Craft Show: River View Teen Leadership Corps. is hosting a craft show on Saturday, Nov. 2 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Roscoe UMC. They will also have a pancake breakfast from 8 to 11 a.m. and then a concession stand the rest of the day.

 

Craft Show: Three Rivers Fire Ladies Auxiliary will be having a craft show on Nov. 2 at the North Station at 24199 CR 621, Coshocton. They are looking for crafters or direct sale vendors to participate. If interested, contact Laura Drake at 740-294-1166.

 

Free Family Law Clinic: There will be a free family law clinic for Coshocton County throughout the year. This advice clinic is for low-income individuals. Sign in is at 1:45 p.m. the day of the clinic and is limited to 16 qualified individuals. It will be held at the Coshocton County Juvenile Court, 426 Main St., Coshocton. Poll Workers Needed: The Board of Elections needs poll workers for the Tuesday, Nov. 5 general election. Poll workers will be trained prior to the election and will be paid for training and working Election Day. Election Meeting: The Coshocton County Board of Elections will have their next meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 5, Election Day, at 6:15 a.m.

 

Toy Chest: Coshocton Co. Firefighters Toy Chest will be taking applications on Nov. 6 from 9 to 11 a.m. and Nov. 12 from noon to 3 p.m. at the Coshocton County Services Building, South 7th St., Coshocton, room 145 for low income families in Coshocton County needing help with Christmas toys this year ages newborn to 15 years old.

Shopping Spree Tickets: The Fatherhood Initiative has tickets available for a 90-second shopping spree at Buehler’s. Tickets are $5 and are available from any Coshocton County Fatherhood Initiative member. Drawing will be held Sunday, Nov. 24, and the shopping spree will be held that week. A limited number of tickets are available. Proceeds benefit father and family-friendly events in the community.

 

Board Meeting: Coshocton Metropolitan Housing Authority (CMHA) will have their next board meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 26 at 5:30 p.m. in the CMHA Learning Center, 823 Magnolia St., Coshocton. The purpose of this meeting is to discuss regular business.

Sponsor includes two games, shoes, t-shirt, and pizza. All proceeds to benefit the First Step Family Violence Intervention Services.

Board Meeting: The River View Board of Education next meeting will be Wednesday, Nov. 14 at 7:30 p.m. This meeting will be held in the administrative building.

 

Board Meeting: Coshocton County JVSD will have their next board meeting in the Board of Education Conference Room, 23640 Airport Rd., on Thursday, Nov. 21 at 7:30 a.m.

 

Pop Tabs: River View High School Teen Leadership Corps class will be collecting pop tabs to then donate to the Ronald McDonald Foundation in April. You can send pop tabs to the school with students or drop them off at the high school, junior high or the elementary schools including Warsaw, Conesville, and Keene. Soup Available: Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church will have homemade vegetable beef soup on Friday, Nov. 1 from noon to 5 p.m. There will be a love offering for $1.50 for a bowl and $3 for a quart. All proceeds go toward the burning of their mortgage.

 

Fall Gathering: Clark Community Presbyterian Church, 90 S. Clay St., Millersburg, will have a fall gathering on Saturday, Nov. 2 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Offering a full lunch menu along with their country store. They are no longer selling their homemade vegetable soup by the quart. They will serve soup by individual serving bowls as part of the lunch menu.

Adult Bible School: The First Baptist church of West Lafayette is now having Sunday night Bible study for adults of all ages on Sunday nights at 6 p.m. in the fireside room of the church. Come out and join us for a time of prayer, fellowship and studying God’s word. The public is invited. This is a discussion format.

Bazaars

 

Grace United Methodist Church: The United Methodist Women of Grace UMC, 422 Walnut St., will have their annual holiday bazaar on Friday, Nov. 1 from 9:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Homemade baked goods, candy, canned food, as well as a lot of crafts, used books, and puzzles. Lunch will begin at 10:30 a.m. and will continue throughout the day. Includes homemade soups, sandwiches, salads, and homemade pies and cakes. Carry-out will be available.

 

Fall Bazaar: The Killbuck United Methodist Church, 410 N. Main St., Killbuck, will have a fall bazaar on Saturday, Nov. 9 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The bazaar will feature canned soups, crafts, décor items, baked goods, food, and more.

 

Emmanuel Lutheran Church: Emmanuel Lutheran Church, 1500 Pleasant Valley Dr., will have their annual “Holiday Bazaar” on Saturday, Nov. 9 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Featured items will be our own homemade noodles, and our own angel food cakes. They have a lunchroom with soups, sandwiches and desserts. They also have a Pick-a-Cookie table where you can choose the cookies that you would like to purchase by the dozen. There will be baked goods, crafts, and a white elephant table.

 

Clubs and Organizations

 

Breakfast Buffet: The West Lafayette Lions will have a breakfast buffet on Saturday, Nov. 2 from 7:30 to 10 a.m. at the West Lafayette United Methodist Church. Cost is $8 for adults, children under 12, $4, and children under two eat for free.

 

Quarter Auction: Blue Star Moms of Coshocton will have a quarter auction on Sunday, Nov. 3 at the Coshocton Senior Center. Doors open at 1 p.m. Auction begins at 2 p.m. Tickets are $5 and may be purchased from any Blue Star Mother or at the door. Food stand available. Benefits the Veterans Honor Flight.

 

Write-On Writers Guild: The next meeting of the Write-On Writers Guild will be Monday, Nov. 4, at 6 p.m. in the Coshocton Public Library’s Large Meeting Room, 655 Main Street., Coshocton. They will discuss their recent sixth annual writers’ workshop and review the evaluation and comments received. November’s writing prompt will be: Veteran’s Day.

Basketball Knockout Tournament: The Royal Butterflies Relay for Life Team will be hosting a basketball knockout tournament at the Nazarene Church in Coshocton on Saturday, Nov. 9 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Proceeds will benefit the Royal Butterflies Relay for Life Team’s efforts. SWCD Meeting: The Coshocton Soil and Water Conservation District will meet Nov. 13 at 8 p.m. for a monthly board meeting. Meetings are held at the office, 724 S. Seventh St. Meetings are always held the second Wednesday of the month. Schedules are subject to change.

 

Make It, Take It: Saturday, Nov. 16 from 1 to 2:30 p.m., youth in grades kindergarten though eighth are invited to the Coshocton Community Center to create harvest-themed crayon shaving leaf prints and paintings. Chili Cook-Off: The Royal Butterflies Relay for Life Team will be hosting a chili cook-off and quarter auction at RHDD, 1517 Chestnut St., Coshocton, on Saturday, Dec. 14 from noon to 4 p.m. Proceeds will benefit the Royal Butterflies Relay for Life Team’s effort. Make It, Take It: Saturday, Dec. 21 from 1 to 2:30 p.m., youth in grades kindergarten through eighth are invited to the Coshocton Community Center to prepare a mosaic tile candle base along with gift box and a card. CoshoctonOhioRocks: The Facebook group, #CoshoctonOhioRocks meets on Saturdays at the community center on Browns Lane from 1 – 2:30 p.m. for rock painting and posting rocks for people who do not have or use social media.

 

Nurse Christian Fellowship: The Nurses Christian Fellowship meets the fourth Monday at 6 p.m. at West Lafayette United Methodist Church. Breakfast Buffet: Army Navy has a breakfast buffet every third Saturday of the month. Veterans and first responders eat for free. Children 12 and under eat for free. Adults, $5.

 

Vietnam Veterans: The Vietnam Veterans meet the second Saturday of each month at the American Legion at 9 a.m. If you are a Vietnam Veteran who served during the Vietnam War, whether you served in country or not, you are welcome to attend.

Volunteers Needed: The Newcomerstown Historical Society is seeking new members and volunteers to act as tour guides and to help out on other tasks at the Olde Main Street Museum and Temperance Tavern. All volunteers will train for the task you choose. Monday Book Talk, Coshocton Public Library: Small Meeting Room, Monday, Nov. 4; 6:30 to 8 p.m.: Monday Book Talk is open to all adults who like to read! The November book is “Love and Other Consolation Prizes” by Jamie Ford. For 12-year-old Ernest Young, a charity student at a boarding school, the chance to go to the World’s Fair feels like a gift. But only once he’s there, amid the exotic exhibits, fireworks, and Ferris wheels, does he discover that he is the one who is actually the prize. The half-Chinese orphan is astounded to learn he will be raffled off—a healthy boy “to a good home.”

 

Lapsit, Coshocton Public Library: Large Meeting Room, Wednesdays, Nov. 6, 13, 20; 10 to 10:30 a.m.; Thursdays, Nov. 7, 14, 21; 10 to 10:30 a.m.; West Lafayette Branch Library, Tuesdays, Nov. 5, 12, 19; 10 to 10:30 a.m.: For babies and toddlers, birth to three years, Lapsit is focused on early literacy and socialization skills through rhyme, rhythm, fingerplays, and music, all from the security of the lap of a parent or caregiver. We spend 20 minutes on a structured circletime, read the shortest of stories, and then enjoy parachute play, art projects, musical instruments, bubbles, or other fun activities. Registration is not required.

West Lafayette Adult Book Discussion Club, West Lafayette Branch Library, Tuesday, Nov. 5; 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.: West Lafayette Adult Book Discussion Club is held on the first Tuesday of each month at 6:30 p.m. in the activities room at Lafayette Pointe, 620 East Main St., conveniently located across the street from the West Lafayette Branch Library. Senior Center Book Club, Coshocton Senior Center, Wednesday, Nov. 6, 1 to 2 p.m.: Join the Coshocton Public Library at the Coshocton Senior Center, 201 Browns Lane, for a book discussion led by Holli Rainwater. We meet at 1 p.m. on the first Wednesdays of September through December and February through May. Books are always better when shared among friends! Registration is not required.

 

Plugged and Unplugged, Coshocton Public Library: Large Meeting Room, Wednesdays, Nov. 6, 13, 20; 2:30 to 5 p.m.: NO PLUGGED AND UNPLUGGED on Wednesday, Nov. 27: Games, snacks, friends, and fun! Teens, grades 7 through 12, are invited to gather at the library for video games, internet access, board games, crafting, or just to hangout. This free weekly event is partially sponsored by Friends of the Library. Registration is not required.

 

Chi Class, Roscoe United Methodist Church: Gym, Thursdays, Nov. 7, 14; 10 to 11 a.m.: NO CHI CLASS on Nov. 21 or Nov. 28: Join the Coshocton Public Library at the Roscoe United Methodist Church Gym to practice gentle exercises that reduce stress and increase vitality. Chi Class is taught by Holli Rainwater, a Certified Tai Chi Easy Practice Leader. Registration is not required.

 

Coffee Club, Presbyterian Church parlor, 142 N. 4th St., Coshocton, Monday, Nov. 11, 10 to 11:30 a.m.: Senior adults 55 and over are invited to join us for a hot cup of coffee and enlightening conversation. We explore a different topic each month: Armchair travel, history, biography, art, literature, popular culture, and more! The November topic is World Kindness Day. Join us for the fun and fellowship. Coffee Chat for Readers, West Lafayette Branch Library, Wednesday, Nov. 13, 9 to 10 a.m.: Adults are invited to the West Lafayette Branch Library for a Coffee Chat program held bi-monthly on the second Wednesday from 9 to 10 a.m. New and best-selling fiction and non-fiction titles will be featured with hot coffee and tea. This Reader’s Advisory program will help you decide what to read next. Andrea Smith, branch manager, will host this lively book talk. Friends of the Library Monthly Meeting, Coshocton Public Library: Large Meeting Room, Wednesday, Nov. 13, 12 to 1 p.m.: All members of the FOL are welcome to join us at the monthly meeting on the second Wednesday of each month at noon. We discuss bookstore business, volunteer opportunities, and the many ways we can help the library. We are always happy to have new members with fresh ideas! Registration is not required. Meetings take place in the large meeting room, located in the basement of the library.

 

Just for Fun Fall Book Club, Coshocton Public Library: Large Meeting Room, Thursday, Nov. 21, 4:30 to 5:30 p.m.: Kids aged 7 to 12 are invited to join us for a special autumn book club. Books are available to borrow from the library four weeks before each session. As a nod to the season, kids can choose from three great books in November: “A Journey to the New World” by Kathryn Lasky, “Mayflower Treasure Hunt” by Ron Roy, or “The Boy Who Fell Off the Mayflower” by Patrick Lynch. Holiday Open House, Coshocton Public Library, Friday, Nov. 22, 4 to 6 p.m.: Kick off the season with a holiday open house at the library. Enjoy refreshments, crafts, holiday music from “A Gathering of Dulcimers,” and a visit from Rudolph. Bring your camera and take pictures of the kids at the photo booth. Come and have fun with friends and family before the “Miracle on Main Street” Holiday Parade.

 

Coshocton Public Library System will close early at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 27 and remain closed all day on Thursday, Nov. 28 in honor of Thanksgiving. For your convenience, return boxes are available outside of the library 24/7, plus you can still access the Ohio Digital Library, online catalog, and online databases even when the library is closed. The library will resume normal hours on Friday, Nov. 29.
