Stamper, Robinson represent RVHS at state cross country meet

WARSAW – River View High School’s boys cross country team made its mind up in July that they were going to be represented at the state cross country meet.
“That was their goal and they never wavered from it,” said Head Coach Gwenna Neal. “The whole team really worked hard and grew this year. Their bond is so tight. Some of them have been running together even before junior high.”
While they weren’t able to go as a team to the state meet on Nov. 2 at National Trail Raceway in Hebron, they were still represented by Javin Robinson and Nathaniel Stamper. This was the first trip to state for Robinson, who is a sophomore and the second for Stamper who is a junior. His first time at the state meet was during his freshman year.
“The bad part this time is not having the whole team to run with, but mentally I will know how to run it better,” he said.
He added that nothing else compares to the feeling you get running at the state meet. Robinson was ready to also get to experience that.
“I’m really excited for the opportunity to run against some of the best runners in the state,” he said. “Going to state is huge. We are representing our school, our team, our coaches, and our brothers. We fell a little short of our goals last year, but we continued to work the entire year to come back around to this.”
Robinson placed 41st at the state meet with a time of 16:40 and Stamper came in 72nd with a time of 16:57 out of 182 runners.
Stamper was very appreciative of their teammates helping them prepare for state even after their own seasons were done.
“We all help push each other,” he said. “When we got on the line we knew they would be there cheering us on and we would be running for them.”
Robinson also was thankful for his teammates, their coaches and parents.
“They all played a part in helping us get this opportunity,” he said.
