Miracle on Main parade to have ‘Let it Snow’ theme this year
COSHOCTON – It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas in Coshocton County. Our Town Coshocton, through the donations of many generous community members, has purchased 44 new snowflake decorations to light up downtown, and the annual Miracle on Main Christmas parade is just around the corner.
This year’s parade will be Friday, Nov. 22 and will have a holly jolly holiday theme, “Let It Snow”. Due to safety concerns, the parade will begin one hour earlier than normal at 5:30 p.m. Line-up will be at 4:30 p.m. at the fairgrounds and there will be a cookie and cocoa station for all parade participants to enjoy.
Before the parade begins, don’t forget to visit the Coshocton Public Library for their annual Holiday Open House beginning at 4 p.m. Enjoy refreshments, sit back and listen to Christmas music by “A Gathering of Dulcimers”, and make sure to bring your camera for a photo shoot with the red-nosed reindeer himself, Rudolph.
At 5 p.m., the artPARK is the place to be as the annual Santa’s Beard Contest will commence at the main stage. This is open to all ages, real or fake beards, and no registration is required. Just show up with your festive beard and collect the most votes to win People’s Choice. All donations will support Our Town Coshocton’s downtown revitalization efforts.
The parade will start on Seventh Street and turn onto Main Street at the light. It will come down Main and end on Third Street. Throwing candy from the floats is prohibited. Walkers will safely distribute candy to children along the curb.
The vendor market has expanded this year and will include Main and Fourth Streets, and some businesses on Main Street will stay open during the parade.
Winners of the parade will be announced at the main stage at the artPARK immediately following the parade and cash prizes will be awarded.
After the parade, Santa will be at BKH Events studio to greet children. This is a free event and open to all children. A photo opportunity will be offered, but families are not obligated to purchase photos.
The Miracle on Main parade is the kick-off event to the Main Street Christmas Challenge, the second annual window decorating contest between businesses in Downtown Coshocton. All windows must be decorated by Nov. 22 in time for the parade. Competition fee is $10, and proceeds will benefit Our Town Coshocton.
Judging will take place through Friday, Dec. 20 and will be done by popular vote. Participating businesses will hand out ballots which need to be returned to Mercantile on Main or Linnet’s Flowers on the Square by the deadline. Winner of the contest will receive bragging rights and a traveling trophy.
Our Town Coshocton is also sponsoring a Christmas Tree Challenge again this year. Sponsor a tree for $25 and decorate a tree in a friendly competition on Saturday, Dec. 14 from 9 a.m. to noon at the Salvation Army. Sponsors are responsible for decorating their own tree. Decorated trees will be donated to local families in need this Christmas season. To sponsor a tree, call Mercantile on Main at 740-622-5956.
