Auditor’s office warns dog owners of online licensing scam

| December 9, 2019

COSHOCTON – Coshocton County Auditor Chris Sycks urges dog owners to be cautious when purchasing dog licenses online. The site ohdog-license.com, which directs customers to www.ohiodoglicense.com, is fraudulently selling fake dog licenses to unsuspecting dog owners.  This website also comes up in Google searches for online dog licensing. Any payment authorized to this site will not license your dog.

The fake site, which attempts to mimic an official website, claims to provide illegal discounts to senior citizens, has inaccurate pricing, fines, and other information, and is not authorized to license any dog in the state of Ohio. Consumers are advised to only purchase online at www.doglicenses.us/OH/Coshocton and that all dog licenses sold by the Coshocton County Auditor’s office arrive in physical form (not electronic as the site promises).

Auditor Sycks has already contacted Sheriff Rogers’ office, and has submitted a complaint to the Ohio Attorney General’s Office asking them to shut down the site and prosecute. Ohioans living outside of Coshocton County should contact their own county auditor to purchase a dog license.

Anyone with questions can call the Coshocton County Auditor’s office at 740-622-1243 or e-mail at dogtags@coshoctoncounty.net.
