CBHC expands services to help children
COSHOCTON – Coshocton Behavioral Health Choices has expanded its services to help those of all ages.
“For a long time we just did substance abuse counseling and primarily served teens and adults,” said Jeanette Hall, director of family prevention services. “Now we offer services for kids and mental health counseling.”
As part of this expansion they opened up a new wing of their building called the Flight School where services are offered to parents and children.
“There are reasons behind issues and why children act out,” Hall said. “If you have behavior concerns you don’t have to go to a big city for help. There are services offered right here in our community.”
The staff also started two new programs for parents that are free to clients and the general public.
Moms Club is offered every Friday from 10 to 11 a.m. for pregnant women and moms with babies 0-6 months old and from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. for moms with babies 6 months to 2-years-old. Both groups meet at Coshocton Behavioral Health Choices (CBHC) and you do not have to sign up to attend. The goals of the group are to promote healthy bonding with baby, promote healthy communication and support and teach techniques and activities to help babies learn. CBHC’s Jennifer Long and Help Me Grow’s Tisha King facilitate the group.
“It’s a great place for moms to come talk about issues that come up and things they all deal with,” Hall said. “There is so much mom shaming that goes on, but we all go through the same things. They also get to have some adult conversation.”
The second program, Love and Logic Parenting Class, started on Dec. 16. This group will meet from 5 to 7 p.m. on Mondays through Jan. 20 in the main group room at CBHC. Snack will be provided. To sign up or for information, call Long at 740-622-0033, ext. 121.
“It will offer tools and hints on how to parent,” Hall said. “Parents with children of any age can attend. You can be a healthy parent and still have questions about if something is normal or if you should be concerned.”
Any parents or caregiver who would like more help or advice can call CBHC to schedule a therapy assessment. No referral is necessary and CBHC also can do autism screenings. Most forms of insurance are accepted and CBHC offers a sliding fee scale. Potential clients are welcome to come in and look around the new child friendly area.
“We want to empower parents to take care of their children and show them that there is hope,” Hall said. “They are still a family and can be happy together. Sometimes the behavior gets worse before it gets better. You just have to stick with it. We’ve all needed extra support at one time or another. The important thing to remember is that we want our kids to grow up to be healthy teens and more importantly healthy adults. We really try to meet the needs of our kids and give parents support.”
